These locos were numbered in the 93xx series and looked quite different from Churchwards earlier design as they had the drop in the footplate a full 12 inches further forward in line with the front of the smokebox
The design was used behind Churchward locomotives when built and behind many earlier designs when they were rebuilt
it was modified in 1981 when it got a much bigger grille and became the Series II
