Soulbond is a very odd mechanic, and one that hasn't been returned to much since it was first printed in the original Innistrad block, but Deadeye Navigator is probably the most iconic of the cards with the mechanic due to the ability to go infinite with some pretty innocent looking cards (plus Dockside Extortionist, but we dont need to worry about that one in Commander anymore!)

If your opponent loses the game after you declare attackers but before the melee trigger itself resolves (say, they were already at 3 life and someone Lightning Bolts them), the melee buff will still count that opponent as someone youve attacked this combat. What does matter is that you have to declare the attack for it to count towards the melee buff
